Star Butterfly, The Underestimated Rebel Princess of Star vs The Forces of Evil
Sally Acorn, The Heart and Leader of The Freedom Fighters of Archie’s Sonic The Hedgehog
As you know, most princesses in fiction are damsels in distress, someone in need of a hero, a knight in shining armor. But what if the princess wasn’t just a damsel, but a rebel and a hero, the one who saves lives instead of needing saving. Princesses well aware of the struggle of fate and destiny, due to being thrust upon destiny's path since birth, often having their lives dictated by the fate they were born into. Sometimes they can't help but question if they even want the role they were born into, either having to choose to stick it out or rebel against the established order. Today’s combatants embody this the most.
However, no matter what life hits them with, these two heroines of freedom never give up. They'll fight to the bitter end, to see peace restored to all lives, not just in their kingdoms, but the entire planet. Whether it be through sacrificing their royal bloodline and magic, or their very body and soul, they'll give it all to defeat the tyrants that endanger their friends and family. All with the hope that at the end they can settle down, to share some Nachos or Chili Dogs, with their beloved. It's time to do it to it, cause with or without magic, we're gonna settle once and for all who wins between The Magical Girl From Mewni and The Heart of The Freedom Fighters, in a DEATH BATTLE!
Hol up….
I know that for any who know me might be wondering why I’m redoing a blog for a matchup I’ve done twice, simply put, because they sucked. Research was poor, for both, language was awfully edgy and crude, simply put it did not do any of them justice. There are also a great deal of new thoughts I have about the matchup, and my opinion on aspects of it has changed. I think what really spurred me to do this is mainly the fact that I noticed Star’s VSBW page was deleted due to disagreements on her stats, and I was prepared to make old defenses for Star by doing a character blog for her. But as I went through, I too had new opinions about Star’s stats, some that made me reconsider the structure for not just a simple character blog, but this matchup in general, not just in Star’s camp, but Sally’s as well. So I'm redoing this from the ground up. Giving them both the analysis they so rightfully deserve.
So what will we look at? Star is pretty straightforward to follow, as she has been covered in an official Death Battle before. We'll be covering everything in her show, as well as books that add on to things mentioned, not explained, or just build upon the lore of the show ( Example: Star’s Spell book).
Sally's quite a bit different, you see, Sal originated from the way past cool tv show, Sonic SATAM. However, as you know, the majority of Sally's history comes from Archie's comics based off the series, and it's where most fans remember her best from. It's also the version of Sally which makes this matchup the most thematic. Also, let’s face it, SATAM Sally just dies against Star. With that being said we'll be focusing mostly on the Archie Comic's version of Sally, though SATAM will be recognized. We will also be excluding The Fleetway version of the character, who's just an entirely different character than both Archie and SATAM, while also sporting a different design. I will also note as references/resources of note that I want to credit is the Steven vs Star blog by the G1 team, and the Franklin vs Tails blog by my boy Round 1.
Background
Star Butterfly
Long ago, colonists (who may have actually been humans) known as Mewmans made their way to Mewni, a dimension inhabited by magical beings, corn, and...MONSTERS, mostly corn, but also MONSTERS. The Queen at that time used her magical powers to transform her weak army into a powerful one, and they drove out the monsters.
Guided by The Magical Embodiment of The SpellBook, Glossaryck, the Mewmans were able to make their way through Mewni, huddled around a stump, and were bestowed The Royal Magic Wand. This wand would be passed on to each royal female princess on their fourteenth birthday. After many years of corn and wars against Monsters, Butterfly Castle stands tall, with the ruling family of Mewni and the Mewmans prospering. The Royal Magic Wand would find itself in the hands of a clumsy yet strangely powerful and energetic young girl...Star Butterfly.
However, Star was a little too destructive with the wand and accidentally set fire to the kingdom. So instead of logically training her or sending her to the frankly horrifying ST Olga's for Wayward Princess, Queen Moon and King River (Star's parents) sent her to the less magical planet (and in another dimension), Earth. There, Star would meet resident Safety Kid, Marco Diaz. Though the two would get off to a rocky start, after kicking some Monster butt, lead by the definitely compensating for something, Ludo, Star and Marco would become best friends. Star would show Marco a world of possibilities beyond the town of Echo Creek and that it's okay to have a little danger in life. While Marco would teach her how to slow down and enjoy being a normal teenager.
However, the fun wouldn't last, Star would learn that Monsters weren't the bad guys after all, and outside threats that threatened the people and home she made on Earth would force her to return to Mewni. However, even after defeating this threat and finally learning to dip down, Star’s journey had not come to an end. As she would be forced to deal with the repercussions of Mewman's mistreatment of Monsters, and she would learn a terrible secret.
Long ago, a queen who learned of the true nature of Monsters like Star herself, would fall in love with the King of Monsters, Globgor. They would have a daughter but when discovered, this queen and her husband were imprisoned. Their daughter was discarded and traded for a peasant girl to become the new Princess of Mewni. The queen, named Eclipsa would later be freed during Star's time, and the truth would be revealed, Star wasn't a real Butterfly. However, despite it all Star would never give up, and with Eclipsa as a guide (who still saw her as a granddaughter despite everything), Star would face the threats head on, including Eclipsa’s own daughter who wanted revenge. However, Star never forgot her time on Earth, and how great it felt to be a normal teen. So, when Eclipsa defeated Meteora, Star would abdicate the throne to her. She would lead her fellow teenage friends in the charge for Eclipsa Queenship, and afterward she could settle down on Earth once again.
However, it was not meant to be, the dangers would return to threaten the newly established peace that Star and Eclipsa brought between Mewmans and Monsters. And this time with betrayal's to boot, Star finally had enough. After seeing all the pain it had brought to everyone, Star had decided then and there to destroy magic...permanently. However, this would mean that travel between dimensions would be closed, and she would not be able to return to Earth...or to Marco. Despite it all, Star would risk it all to save Mewni, and with the help of her friends and family, they would destroy magic across the multiverse, forever.
However, Star could not leave Marco, and he couldn't leave her. And for their sacrifices, they were rewarded. Through their love for each other, Star and Marco's were able to use magic one final time to fuse both of their dimensions together, allowing them to be with each other.
Whether you agree with her choice to destroy magic or not, you can't deny that Star went through a lot. However, she never gave up and fought hard for peace, not just for Mewmans, but Monsters as well. She may not be a true Butterfly...but she's a Shining Star.
Sally Acorn
Long ago, humans reigned supreme on the planet Earth, in what was known as the "Old World". However, that would all change when humanity made contact with an alien species known as The Xorda. Due to humanity's greed, The Xorda would bomb the planet with the intent to destroy all life. And while some survived, many others died.
The surviving humans would devolve into Overlanders (though some humans would survive and thrive in a city built for them called Station Square), and the animals of the planet would evolve into intelligent humanoid beings known as Mobians. Many Kingdoms and civilizations would rise from the Mobian population, but none more prominent than The Kingdom of Acorn. The world of Mobius would be peaceful, however a Great War would take place between The Acorn Kingdom and Overlanders. King Maximillian Acorn would lead his people to victory alongside the help of his second warlord...Dr. Ivo Robotnink.
While the Kingdom would win this war, it was all for naught, as the powerful doctor would seize control over the kingdom and would slowly but surely roboticized Mobotropolis. However, some would escape from the Doctor's grasp, and would make their way to Knothole Village. There they would regroup and build themselves an army strong enough to take back their home. They would be known as The Freedom Fighters, they fight for the freedom and restoration of Mobius from Dr. Robotnink and his cowardly nephew, Snively. Their strongest fighter may have been Ogilvie Maurice Hedgehog, you might know him better as Sonic, The Fastest Thing Alive. However, the true leader, brains, and heart of The Freedom Fighters was none other than King Max's daughter and Princess of Mobotropolis...Sally Acorn.
Sal would lead this ragtag group of kids and eventually teenagers in the war against Robotnink alongside Sonic. Through many action packed and sometimes wacky battles, it would all come to head when Sally...died. But not really, and eventually The Freedom Fighters would defeat Robuttnik once and for all. And Sally would awake from her comatose position, and would reunite with Sonic, with a kiss. And that's where the story ends....
Just kidding, because Sally would have to deal with the rebuilding of her kingdom, her fathers return and his frankly baffling choices as king, a newly found brother, and the return of Ivo Robotnink from another dimension, now going by Eggman. All this would culminate with the return of The Xorda seeking to finish what they started. To save the world, Sonic would sacrifice himself to stop the black hole dropped on the planet, but not before leaving Sally with assurance of his love for her.
It would later be revealed that Sonic had survived and he would later return home, however this event would scar Sally, in ways she probably didn't understand. When the opportunity arose to step back from the action and become acting queen with Sonic acting as her king she tried to take it. However, Sonic wasn't ready for that, as he knew that the world still needed him in the fight. However, Sally didn't see it that way, and shamefully publicly broke up with The Blue Blur.
Years earlier, Sonic himself would propose a similar question to Sally, which she vehemently refused based on the fact that they were still needed. So it seems out of character for Sally to reject Sonic assessment when the roles were reversed. Some would chalk it up to bad writing (and that's probably true) but we do have to think about the fact that back then life was much simpler. While Sally still had loads of responsibilities she hadn't been through the things she had been through now. She's been fighting her whole life, leading others, having to sacrifice much for the cause. Sonic’s perceived death had made her snap under the pressure of everything she's been through. When she got Sonic back she didn't want to lose him again, and she reacted in the worst way possible.
Sally would come to realize this, and would feel shame for this event, and it would dampen her spirit. Even after gaining a new hairstyle, reclaiming her title as The Freedom Fighters leader, and some of her old personality back she would never truly be able to move on. Even when a possible new love in another royal leader, Monkey Khan, emerged, she just couldn't move past her mistake. After fighting against the forces of Mogul, Nagus, Enerjak, The Iron Queen, and finally defeating Dr. Eggman once and for all, Sally would get the chance to finally rectify her mistake, as The Blue Blur and The Princess would become one again, and they were better than ever.
However, good things can only last for so long. Dr. Eggman would rise from the ashes, more ruthless than ever, the people would turn on Sally's longtime companion and best friend, the AI Nicole, and Nagus would attempt to overthrow her brother. However, Sally would continue the fight against the forces of evil. This would all lead to an assault on the newly rebuilt Death Egg. After some space time manipulation, Eggman's most diabolical plan would be revealed, a worldwide roboticizer that would destroy everything made of metal. This would include the city of Mobotropolis and all of its Robian citizens. To stop this Sally would travel to the heart of The Death Egg to stop the doctor's plan. However, the roboticizer would fire regardless, so instead of outright stopping it, she turned it back onto the Death Egg...and herself.
Sally plan would succeed, however, since she was at the center of the roboticizer, she would be roboticized. Eggman would use her against her family and friends, The Freedom Fighters would eventually free her, with the help of the future warrior Silver The Hedgehog. However Sally's experience as Mecha Sally would leave her traumatized, to the point that she could no longer properly lead as she would freeze up in battle, becoming fearful of the evils they have to face. This would force her to step down and allow her friends to continue the fight while she mentally recovered.
Sally has lived a life of service to others, and no matter what comes her way she always pushes forward and lives her life in the belief of a better tomorrow, so it's okay if she takes time to slow down for now. And there is hope, in a future that's extremely possible, The Freedom Fighters succeed in defeating Eggman once and for all, and Sally is finally able to settle down and start a family with Sonic, and lead Mobotropolis into a peaceful future. Freedom has never had a better leader than Mobotropolis greatest...Warrior Princess.
Experience and Skill
Star Butterfly

One particular detail that I feel is often overlooked when it comes to Star, is her combative skills. Star may not be book smart, but she is a battle genius. Since she was a toddler, she was taught how to fight by The Royal Knights (14:34) and she is very proficient in combat, not just with her magic, but her hand to hand skills, having battled monsters for a long time prior to the series start. She is very nimble and acrobatic, and is able to effortlessly evade and maneuver between her opponents' attacks. She’s also been shown to be able to booby trap a field with traps and weapons, including a laser system, bombs, and monsters. She was also smart enough to come up with a plan that tricks the dragons multiple heads to tie into a knot.
When it comes to her magical prowess, Star is a prodigy. The Magic Evaluator, Baby told Queen Moon that, “Star is nowhere near your skill level at her age, she’s far beyond it. In fact, I haven't seen anything like this since Queen Eclipsa.” Having mastered dipping down and her Butterfly Form at the age of fourteen, this is not mentioning how creative Star is with her magic. She’s proficient in multiple weapons including maces, swords, bows and arrows.
Sally Acorn
When it comes to experience and skill, Sally Acorn has tons of it. She is incredibly gifted, having been taught math, science, history, acrobatics, and martial arts since the age of 5, by her mentor Julayla. Sally has a strong mind that can thrive even in the most extreme pressure, she has too, since she’s basically the leader of a Guerrilla army, and princess. Sally has been at war for the majority of her life, having to lead not just her own FF, but also other cells, and The Chaotix. She also has to deal with multiple personalities colliding together, and getting them to work together. This shows the most in Sonic, who is a go with the flow, I do it my way type of guy. Yet she has succeeded in getting him to follow her lead, which has been complimented by even Eggman. She is an extremely smart tactician which has won them day many times.
Also, her combative skills should not be overlooked, as I mentioned she’s quite agile and a great swimmer. She's also very capable with a blade, and has defeated multiple swatbots, badniks, assassins, shinobi’s including Espio, and even held her own against Sonic himself. She is able to solve complex riddles, outwit many of her opponents, including Eggman, and she is an excellent hacker, being able to hack even Eggman’s tech. Sally could sense Dark Gaia was trying to take over her mind, and broke free, through her words Sally restored peace between two nations, and rationally and peacefully stopped a coup between her brother and General Prower.
Equipment
Star
The Royal Wand

The greatest treasure of The Butterfly Family. It is passed down to each princess of the royal family on their fourteenth birthday. This magical item is very powerful, with claims that it can destroy the universe. It can be used to cast all kinds of magical spells, both verbal and non verbal. Depending on the user it will change its design to fit who is wielding it.
The wand can literally create anything the user thinks of, and bring it into reality. The wand can also transform itself and other things, giving new features or making something new entirely. It should be noted that The Wand is only considered training wheels, with princesses seeking the power of Dipping Down, to gain true magical power.
Dimensional Scissors
These scissors allow the user to travel to any dimension in the multiverse, and with enough creativity can be used for defense and attack. However, if the user does not have a destination in mind, it will lead them into a dead end.
Sally
Laser
Sally has a laser gun, strong enough to cut through rocks.
Sling Shot
Sally possesses a sling shot, with it she can throw metal balls, Paint Balls…and grenades at her foes.
Pocket Knife
Sally has a knife to cut things.
Lasso gun
Sally has a lasso gun to climb and swing across areas.
Ring Blades
Okay now we’re getting somewhere, these are Sally’s Ring Blades. These are Holo-Blades designed by Dr. Ellidy, which have become Sally’s go-to weapons of choice. These blades are tough enough to slice through trains, cut through monsters, and even pierce through robots, including the likes of Metal Sonic. Tails upgraded them further, so that they would be able to transform into a broadsword and shield.
Extreme Gear
If you played Riders, you know what these are. Sally has Extreme Gear which allows her to traverse through the air, and Sally can make hers into a backpack that she can easily wear.
The Marvelous Queen
Yes this is a real panel of Sally knocking out Mogul with her bike, The Marvelous Queen, he’s a bum.
Deep Power Stones
A Satam exclusive item, these stones are said to have power greater than a normal Satam Power Ring, 10,000 times greater to be exact. They grant flight, super strength, and create forcefields, and they seemingly seem to be permanent upgrades.
Nicole The Holo-Lynx
Before there was Sage, there was Nicole The Holo Lynx, once a sassy and detached handheld, became a sentient and compassionate ai, and Sally’s best friend. Nicole’s origins have certainly changed a lot given the author or reboot. She’s either an invention of Rotor from the future, or a program once meant to give Dr. Ellidy a chance at life again. Either way, through experiencing life with her fellow Freedom Fighter’s, she gained an appreciation for the real world, and will do anything she can to protect it and her friends.
Nicole has a variety of abilities, which include being able to analyze various things, pick up signals, tracking, and create holoprojections of various things including The Freedom Fighters to distract foes. Obviously, Nicole can hack into things, and sense/detect even invisible foes. She can communicate with others, and most importantly give Sally advice, and calculate probabilities. Nicole can sense fluctuations in Magnetic Fields and even explain things like how Robotnik experiments have affected quantum energy levels in The Zone of Silence. In fact, Nicole can detect distinct residues of supernatural sub-particles indicating cross-dimensional witchcraft, and since the portal was still open she could lock on to it and what’s impressive is that she was able to detect a rift between Sonic’s and Sabrina’s realities despite being in different multiverses. Nicole could analyze the effects of The SGW being able to tell that the multiverse collapsed on itself and even had leftover energy from The SGW was transferred into herself. Her handheld can even shock people. Furthermore, after being hacked by Iron Queen’s magic and controlled, she upgraded to make sure that could not happen again, she was able to still function despite the SGW effects, and could even resist hacking from Eggman.
Through holographic form, Nicole can become tangible and even interact with the physical world, while she can do it through the Mobotropolis power grid, a power ring does make it easier. Her greatest, and most offensive method of combat is through Nanites. In Archie Sonic, nanites are kinda like technological magic. Nanites can control machinery, teleport her foes away within the city, trap foes in barriers, create entire cities, mechs, robots, duplication, inflict pain, and battle suits. Through her creation of New Mobotropolis, she has complete control of the city, and can create barriers of defense over it, even outside the city. Weapons Nicole has created for herself include spiked lances, ring tethers, and she can fire energy blasts. Nicole’s shields can withstand Eggman’s fleet blasterfire, not even The Eggbeater couldn’t even penetrate it’s shielding and it could beat Sonic. Furthermore, Shadow who was tapping fully into The Chaos Force released a powerful Chaos Blast which Nicole with a great deal of effort had to protect the city from with her Nanites, even crazier, Nicole’s nanite forcefield could protect the city against a combined blast from Super Sonic and Enerjak.
Simply put, if you want it, Nicole can make it.
Warp Rings
Created by Finetivus, Warp Rings allow users to travel across the planet, and when charged in other dimensions (though the user must know where they want to go), and can even be used for attacks, if you're creative.
Power Rings
Sally doesn’t use her Power Rings for offensive capabilities, just mainly using it for granting Nicole easier access to the physical world. Nevertheless, Rings allow for many defensive capabilities that protect the user. For example:
Mind Control - Power Rings were put in the Iron Queen's staff to amplify her powers, which was mind controlling Monkey Kahn in this case. Sonic’s parents could break free of the mind control aspect of Robotnik’s robotization thanks to their wedding bands, which were power rings, whenever they were used. Sonic slapping one on Monkey Kahn instantly freed him from the Iron Queen’s technological mind control. Robotnik modified a Power Ring so it wouldn’t give Sally her free will back. The Iron Queen could control Kahn again explicitly because he didn’t have a Power Ring, and it was stated his Ring Crown protects him from mind control.
Cold/Frigid Temperatures - Sonic carrying a Power Ring basically made him ignore the cold.
Transmutation - With a Power Ring Matrix the Death Egg resisted the crystalline magic of Ixis Naugus.
Extrasensory Perception - With several Power Rings on each arm before going into their superforms, Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails could evade the 6th sense of Mammoth Mogul.
Soul Manipulation- The energy of Power Rings combined with his sheer mental will prevented Mogul's disembodied spirit from disappearing into immaterial
Red Star Rings
Red Star Rings possess the same powers and properties of normal rings, however, they actually have even greater potential of power, possibly due to the fact that they are made with Chaos Energy in the Lake of Rings.
The Sword of Acorns
The Sword of Acorns is without a doubt, one of the most powerful weapons in the Archie Sonic series, maybe even only second to The Chaos Emeralds. The sword was forged and made from The Source of All, which is the literal source of everything. It is an omnipotent sentient substance responsible for the creation of the universe. It supplies all the cosmic matter necessary to create the base material for life and everything else. While it exists in everyone, it is only noticeable in a select few, namely King Max and his daughter, Sally herself. If a good amount is collected in a specific area, it can produce and channel a great amount of magical energy. While Sally would choose to reject The Source, it would not reject her.
This is why Sally is able to use The Sword of Acorns, which draws its power from The Source. Due to her connection to The Source, she can easily use the blade, and The Sword can speak to her, and will protect her no matter what. The drawback is that it’s extremely pushy, which is part of the reason she relinquished it. Because of the sword, she gains glowing eyes, with an intense aura.
With its power Sally can:
Flight: FLY CHIPMUNK FLY
Energy Blast: She can fire off energy blast
Dimensional Rifts: The Sword can create rifts and dimensional travel
Mind Reading: As seen here
Precognition/Clairvoyance: The Sword can see into the future, and claims to know everything, from yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Simply put, it knows everything.(Wait does that mean it knew about Eggman's future plans to use The SGW to rewrite the multiverse forcing Sonic to counteract it, but then Eggman interfered causing it to be rewritten anyway, erasing the previous world history and some of its people? Wait...did Sonic commit accidental genoci---)
Healing: Heals Uncle Chuck
Power Absorption: Perhaps The Sword of Acorns most famous power, is its ability to nullify and absorb the powers of extremely powerful beings, this includes Super Form level threats, like Nagus, and even Enerjak at his most powerful.
Resistances:
Mind Control: It has shown the ability to resist and counter the effects of Mind Control
Transmutation: Like King Max’s Crystalization
Abilities
Star
Magic
Star's main power, until after destroying it, is magic. Star and all magic users gain their power from The Realm of Magic, a dimension where all magic originates and travels throughout all the dimensions in the multiverse. The golden liquid contains healing properties and can return things to their previous state. With her magic Star has created and performed multiple spells. With magic, there really is no limit to what Star can or cannot make, including turning small critters and animals into monsters, the only limit is the user’s imagination, according to Glossaryk, most of the spells Star has used come directly from Star's imagination, so they are not in the book.
Dip Down
Dip Down is what all Butterflies strive for. It allows them to channel the magic within themselves, and create and use magic without the need for the wand. Furthermore, while Dipping Down one can achieve awesome power, including being able to destroy a dimension. Finally, Glossaryk has confirmed that by doing this one reaches into the magic of the universe far more than the wand can, since this is a magic user's true essence allowing them full magical capabilities.

Power Expulsion
This attack allows Star to take all her power, condense it into a ball of energy and release it as a powerful attack, while powerful, it is Star’s last resort move, as it will revert her to base form, leaving her weakened.
Forms
Star
Rainbow Kaiju Battle Armor
A giant rainbow colored battle armor, used for battling bigger foes.
Butterfly Forms
The greatest reward for Dipping Down, is gaining access to one’s Butterfly Form. This form augments physical strength, flight, more arms, while also gaining more abilities:
Omatida Eyes: Allow Star to see multiple dimensions all at once…and traumatize your friendly neighborhood teenaged half human/alien friend

Sally
Overclocked Nicole
When a Red Star Ring is attached to her handheld, Nicole gains a powerful form which boosts her power and abilities. Sadly, while powerful, given the Red Star Ring’s overwhelming power, she can only maintain it for so long before she starts feeling physical strain, and her console burnouts.

Sally
Freedom Fighters

Using The Sword of Light, Sonic battles Nagus who had a single Chaos Emerald
Sonic only used the sword to fend off Nagus magic, he and Elias could battle, keep up with, and tank Nagus’s attacks
Sonic Dark Gaia in base form, who broke open the planet and at the time was far more stronger (7.2 yottatons of TNT)
Sonic could match Erazor Djinn who absorbed half of The Arabian Nights and control The Night Palace, an infinite space with an astral planet

Amy also did damage to Titan Metal Sonic by smashing Sonic through it
Base Characters
The Chaotix battle Neo Metal Sonic clones that also battle’s Sonic and Shadow, who could move as fast as them
The Chaotix battle Mogul, who had a Chaos Emerald, forcing him to retreat
Nagus, the creator of The Zone of Silence, merges it with The Void, which is similar in size
Scourge believes himself to be stronger than Al and Cal, both began damaging Zones, beyond their own before being arrested by The Zone Cops
Super Beings
Sonic and Classic Sonic defeated Time Eater, Time Eater destroyed space-time on a scale encompassing all of reality and "all of space-time", destroys Classic Sonic's universe, and his battle with Sonic's extended across different dimensions
Time Eater warping attacks ignore the laws of time and space, the time holes reach to different points in time, when the arms reach Sonic, they're in different points in time, and both Sonic's are quick enough to react to them
Alongside Super Sonic, Shadow teleported The Space Colony Ark
Rushing at each other with immeasurable speeds, Super Sonic and Hyper Knuckles destroyed an entire Zone
Countered the Super Genesis Wave with Super Mega Man, which “had no limits” and was going to affect both their multiverses (Multiversal ++)
Nicole confirmed the Super Genesis Wave collapsed the multiverse, and Eggman did the same, saying “every facet of reality fell in on itself and was recreated”
The incalculable energy of the chaos emerald post Mogul could make “a crisis on infinite realities” resulting in only one left of the users choosing (Multiversal)
Weaknesses
Star
Series Finale notwithstanding, Star issues primarily stem from being a bit rash decisions and not thinking things through. She's more of a punch first ask question's later kind of girl, which has led her to not plan things through. There's also the fact that Star only read two chapters in full of the spell book, having skimmed over the rest, now while I personally bulk at the opinion, nowadays of Star not fulfilling her potential, there are some legitimately good spells from the other chapters she missing out on, despite having created a great deal of spells herself, and reading Skywynn and Eclipsa’s chapters.
Sally
Pre-Genesis Wave Sally could fight, but she preferred being a strategist, who led others and made the plan, over direct combat. However, with The Post-SGW, this is not an issue any longer. No, Sally doesn’t really have anything in terms of physical weaknesses. However, she does have an emotional one. She's still a teenage girl. She puts too much pressure on herself, and she'll bubble it all up until when it's called out, she'll lash out in the worst of ways. She has tremendous self doubt that has brought her to tears, and she'll usually need someone to bring her back from the brink. It should be mentioned that Nicole herself actually is the one with physical weaknesses, like The Red Star Ring burning her out eventually. Also, Nagus Crystal Transmutation was able to destroy her Nanites.
Also, Geoffery St John…I hate that guy.
Before The Verdict
STAR DOESN’T KNOW EVERY SPELL IN THE BOOK (BUT SHE KNOWS THE BEST ONES)
I think this one is very obvious. But Star doesn’t know every spell in the book. Star had tons of potential, and I'd say that in terms of creativity and power, she does fulfill them to an extent. However, when it comes to knowledge, and learning, specifically relating to the spells in the book, she didn’t really take the time to learn all the spells in the book. Star herself, called herself a skimmer.
However, despite that, one thing that should be noted is that Star did read in full, and demonstrates knowledge of two chapters from this book, Skywynn and Eclipsa’s. Honestly speaking, their chapters contain the best spells in the book. Not to mention, famous spells like Warnicorn Stampede was created by Skywynn, and spells like The All-Seeing-Eye, were created by Eclipsa, in my opinion, with this knowledge in mind, I see no issue with giving Star access to all of Eclipsa and Skywynn spells, especially Eclipsa, due to her high potential, the fact she’s read them both in full and used their spells, and in terms of Eclipsa, has seen her use those spell herself in person, means giving her access to the spells is okay to me.
Does Star Scale to Skywynn?
Let’s knock this one out of the way first, because scaling to Skywynn is the least of the issues we now face with Star VS scale, and Star’s potential power. In the episode “Baby”, Baby, the magical evaluator says to Moon, “Star is nowhere near your skill level at her age, she’s far beyond it. In fact, I haven't seen anything like this since Queen Eclipsa.” In this sentence, and in the whole show, Eclipsa was the strongest Butterfly, until Star came along. Furthermore, Star was just outright stronger than Eclipsa for most of the series, she actually had a Butterfly form, Eclipsa didn’t until the last episode. Eclipsa doesn’t know how to revert her spells, Star does.
Finally in terms of Star scaling to Skywynne blowing up a dimension, this is not some made up spell, and it’s certainly a spell Star knows and performed. How do I know, because Skywynne did this feat by dipping down, something all Butterflies must do, to achieve their Butterfly Form, including Star. I’ve also seen claims that Moon should be stronger than Star because she almost beat Meteora, while Star stalemated her, forgetting the fact that Moon fought a weaker Meteora, in comparison to Star. Star fought Meteora who had swallowed all the souls in Mewni, including Hekapoo’s and a multitude of souls Tom possessed.
WAIT HOW BIG ARE DIMENSIONS IN STAR VS?
There are multiple dimensions seen, and shown in Star Vs The Forces of Evil. However, the exact size of these dimensions are up to interpretation. Earth is labeled as a dimension in multiple episodes, there’s a dimension for Arcades, Bounce Lounge, and Dolphins. Then there are places like Hekapoo’s Dimension and Mewni.
Some of these places are more like planets, and the others are less dimensions or universe-like, in the conventional sense, and more like realms. Even the one that Skywynn destroyed was for moss and worms, making it questionable if it’s universal destruction, or just planetary. The exact size of many of these realms are unknown, and the others are clearly referring to planets.
The Plains of Time, however, is a dimension where all of time itself is regulated and the history of the universe is recorded, and Star’s Easy Peasy Time Freezie, was powerful enough to affect time across the universe, so I do believe there is an argument to be made here. Dimensions are too loosely used in Star Vs, with a variety of meanings. I started to believe that perhaps, these dimensions were more like realms of a singular universe, but there are points that push back on this.
OMNITRAXUS AND THE TAVERN AT THE END OF THE MULTIVERSE?
Omnitraxus Prime is the Space Time Guy, created by Glossaryk to and I quote, “make sure the multiverse doesn’t eat itself”, kinda concerning that he died tbh, furthermore, in his normal appearance he has a body made up of stars, planets, and galaxies. Moreso, in order to help Star, he takes her within himself to the Crystal Fields of Interwoven Continuum. Here, Star is able to perceive various versions of herself from alternate universes and timelines.
Now why is it important that we talk about Omni, and what he can do. Well one, we learn from him that the multiverse of Star Vs The Forces of Evil has infinite parallel universes, with infinite parallel timelines. Furthermore, we know there are legitimate universes, and a multiverse, because of The Tavern At The End Of The Multiverse, a tavern that sits on the boundary between reality and nonexistence.
Secondly, because of Toffee, who was able to beat Omnitraxus, and no Toffee did not beat Omnitraxus with hax, he just simply blasted him, and the man folded, he didn’t absorb his magic until after he was knocked out. Why does this matter, because Star scales to Toffee, due to the fact that of not only facing stronger foes later on (Meteora) but Star later being able to reverse Toffee’s corruption of the Realm, furthermore, Toffee was using Star’s magic to beat Omnitraxus.
Furthermore, The Total Annihilation Spell can potentially, if left unchecked, could eat through every dimension.
THE REALM OF MAGIC
The Realm of Magic is the source of all magic, allowing it to flow to every dimension in the multiverse. Why does this matter? Well, Star does reverse the effects of Toffee corruption and restore the magic of the realm. That would be fine, however, later on Star would struggle to destroy the realm by herself, making it pretty difficult to discern what this truly meant for Star, and her potential power.
IS STAR A FRAUD (STEVEN WAS ROBBED?!)
Nope, Steven still dies horribly. Why? The wand is said to have the power to destroy the universe by Moon, someone whose word should be trusted, considering she’s the queen, and more knowledgeable than Star, and the wand is treated like training wheels, the real power is in dipping down, and wandless magic. Also, Moon’s statement is one of the few instances, where destruction is linked to a universe, not a dimension. Not to mention, Star’s restoration of The Realm of Magic, and even being a part of destroying magic on a multiversal scale.
Which Star learns and masters, this is not to mention the fact that The Wand can create anything the user wants, and Star has created tons of spells. The amount of hax she has at her disposal, including transmutation and reality altering, means that Steven really didn’t stand a chance. Universal Star Butterfly is still a thing, go beat on Mark instead Steven, with that in mind…
WHERE DO I STAND ON STAR’S POWER?
I think being conservative with Star’s power based on everything, is a fair play….to an extent. Star being capped to planet level is respectfully, downplay, especially taking in the planet busting spell, and scaling to Rhombulus, who beat a guy who could create black holes. However, I do believe capping her at just Universal, is a fair take. The wand can destroy a universe, yet its training wheels, restoring and destroying The Realm Of Magic, is at minimum universal, heck I could even buy Infinite Universal, given she would still scale in some ways to restoring and destroying The Realm of Magic.
The real question is whether or not Star should get multiversal. Omnitraxus, is again stated to have been created to keep the multiverse from “eating itself”, and Toffee beat him. Furthermore, The Realm of Magic does run throughout the entire multiverse. I’ll start with The Realm of Magic argument, yes it does run throughout the multiverse, yes, Star did restart it and undo the corruption, however, she also could not destroy it on her own, and it’s unclear why. However, she alongside Eclipsa, Moon, Meteora, and ten other queens, which would still be impressive, but obviously you would have divide that up….somehow since again Star’s multiverse has infinite parallel universes, with infinite parallel timelines. I think of the two arguments one can make about multiversal Star Butterfly, this is the weaker of the two, but still usable.
The Omnitraxus Prime scaling argument is definitely the stronger one to make, given the scaling Star would get. Omni as stated earlier, was created by Glossaryk to, “make sure the multiverse doesn’t eat itself”, which we know he does, given episodes like Mathmagic, and Star>Toffee>Omnitraxus Prime. I think this is a fair argument to make, and depending on the matchup, it may not matter much, like with Steven, it’s not necessary to bring this up, and with Sally, well, we'll get there soon.
AYO SHE LOST TO METEORA
Meteora is a Monster/Butterfly hybrid, the daughter of Eclipsa (the strongest Butterfly prior to Star) and Globgor, The Monster King. Her potential was destined to be high, and Star did not enter that fight determined to beat her. She wanted to reason with her. Plus, Meteora had absorbed all the souls of Mewni, increasing her power and strength, yet Star put up a good fight, and their battle ended with them equally exhausted and injured. Star did not lose that fight. Saying Star is weaker because she at best, stalemated an equally powerful foe, is downplay, not just for Star but Meteora as well.
WELL SHE'S A GLASS CANON
Star has defeated foes on her level of power before, and she survived her turbonuclear blast, and her power expulsion blast, power expulsion being her full power in her Butterfly Form and she survived it. No, she's not a glass canon.
Verdicts
(CarbonatedJem)
(Retro Watcher)
Star Butterfly vs Sally Acorn is a matchup, more complex than what you would initially think it would be. Given how infamous Archie Sonic’s verse level of power is, it’s easy to initially think Star stands no chance. On the flipside given how wacky and out there Star’s power is, and the lack of proper analysis on her, it’s easy to think Sally has no chance, strange isn’t it. Since my initial, and frankly terrible previous analysis of both characters, my thoughts and opinions on them both, and the matchup has shifted, especially when it comes to stats, abilities, and even something as tertiary as skill and experience. So I’m gonna break this down, bit by bit, alone this time, because there is a lot I want to say. So let’s start with stats.
Stats
I’m going to do this a bit differently, I’m going to break this into two sections. The first will be more conservative on both, I’ll consider the minimum amount of power you can give Star vs Sally without The Sword of Acorns, and then all out, Star vs Sally, high ends for Star vs Sword of Acorns Sally, in fact I’ll do this with all the sections. Let’s begin.
Low-Ends Star vs Base Sally
So at the low-ends for Star, we have a character who is at a baseline Universal, due to statements like the Wand having the power to destroy a universe and Glossaryk confirming that by dipping down one reaches into the magic of the universe far more than the wand can. Furthermore, even at a low-end, Star restoring The Realm of Magic, and being part of something that destroyed magic entirely across the multiverse, means she’s touching Universal tier quite easily, heck you can argue even Infinite Universal, since Omnitraxus confirms that, the multiverse is comprised of, “ infinite parallel universes, with infinite parallel timelines.” So with this locked down, where does Sally stack up, well, Sally is a bit more tricky. She doesn’t have statements and feats like Star, and she’s not a heavy hitter (until the sword, but we’ll get there), however, on panel, she survived an Energy Inhibitor going off in the Zone Of Silence with the other Freedom Fighters, which was responsible for stopping its expansion on to the rest of Mobius, and later it it was confirmed to be them stopping the Zone from collapsing, and The Zone of Silence was stated to have no finite proportions. On top of the fact that Sally has battled the likes of Metal Sonic, and pierced his metal with her blades, lends to her stacking up pretty well against Star. Also, her brother Elias could hold his own against Nagus, who was wielding a Chaos Emerald. A single Chaos Emerald can power alternate dimensions, create and destroy whole zones. They can also warp reality across the entire universe, and cause space time to collapse. Sonic’s universe is said to be infinite in size, this at the bare minimum, puts Star and Sally in equal levels of power, I could see arguments for both, especially Sally getting higher, but the safest bet is to call it a tie. Though it should be noted, Star is physically stronger, especially scaling to Skywynn, whose Raspberry Ribbon Lasso can latch onto and rotate planets, through physical strength.
When it comes to speed, things get a bit harder. Star can dodge lightning and even her own spells, and she can match the likes of Eclipsa, whose Total Annihilation Spell can destroy every dimension if left unchecked, which would get Star really high, including The Realm of Magic, potentially getting her to even infinite levels here. Now where does Sally stack, well despite being a Sonic character, she clearly does not have that level of speed, nor has she ever demonstrated any high speed feats of any kind. However, she has great reaction speeds, being able to evade attacks from the likes of Monkey Khan and even Sonic, and was able to trade blows and evade Metal Sonic’s attacks, characters much, much, much faster than Star ever will be, even in Base Form. Meaning even if Star was faster, Sally can more than make it up by being able to react to her.
This is a tie
High-End Star vs Sword of Acorns Sally
You might've noticed that I didn’t include a cosmology section, and this is why. It doesn’t matter whether you only buy low-ends for Star, or even high-ends for Star, it does not matter for this matchup if you decide to give Sally The Sword of Acorns. That sword gives Sally stats, in the ranges of the Super Tiers of Archie Sonic. This includes the likes of Shadow, Enerjak, and even Super Sonic. The Sword of Acorns drained the powers of an Enerjak who defeated Super Sonic, the same Super Sonic who countered the Super Genesis Wave with Super Mega Man, which “had no limits” and was going to affect both their multiverses. I also think a lot of people forget as well, that all the Sonic Games except Unleashed, Lost World, and every game after Lost World is canon, meaning that on top of its own original cosmology, Archie also has everything from the game’s as well. There is no way for Star to overcome this, no matter how low or how high you have her, and that includes speed as well.
Sally takes it.
Abilities vs Arsenal
Low-Ends Star vs Base Sally
I think this is the section I was looking forward to the most, let’s break it all down. Star’s magic is endless, and with it, there is no real limit to anything she can do. She can create anything with it, from Narwhal Blast to Easy Peasy Time Freezie (though she has said she wouldn’t do that again). Star can create spells that can transmute objects and people, move planets, create wormholes, and mess with minds. Not to mention the variety of offensive spells Star can throw at Sally. Furthermore, many of the darkest spells are incredibly dangerous, Black Velvet Inferno can trap foes in an inescapable black sphere and engulfs them in searing white light, which reverts them back to infancy. Dreamless Sleep can trap a target in a perpetual state of, well, dreamless sleep, and "The "darkest spell" can kill Septarians and other immortal beings as well as negate their regenerative abilities. With so much that Star can throw at Sally, you might wonder what Sal can even do here.
Well for one, Sally has a Power Ring, and while she doesn’t use its offensive capabilities, the ring still grants its user basic protection like resistances to Mind Manipulation and Transmutation, which is good for Sally in cases like this, and when it comes to variety, thankfully for Sally, she has Nicole. Nicole’s Nanites can also make anything, from cities, mechs, robots, battle suits, and duplicates. She can also create holoprojections of various things including The Freedom Fighters to distract foes and weapons for her own. Also, Nicole can create barriers to protect Sally, and forcefields to trap Star. These barriers and forcefields are strong enough to withstand blast from beings such as Shadow, who unleashed a chaos blast, while fully tapping into The Chaos Force, and a blast from Super Sonic and Enerjak at the same time. Star cannot break these, as they can withstand power from beings much stronger than Star. So, even if Star did her Power Expulsion, Nicole’s barriers would be able to protect Sally.
Finally, Overclocked Nicole would be an issue, as she draws power from Red Rings, which are far more powerful than normal Rings. Not to mention, The Deep Power Stones could boost Sally stats and grant her the ability to fly and make forcefields.
However, Star has multiple ways around this, one Star can create monsters and multiple creatures of her own to match the duplication issue of the Nanites. Star can actually travel to other dimensions, while Sally is stuck on the planet with her Warp Rings. Star may not be able to break the barriers. But she can escape via her scissors or dimensional portals. Nicole cannot directly affect Star, as she deals with magic, not technology. Nicole’s Overclocked Form, can last only for so long, and Star can wait it out via dimensional travel. But the two biggest issues Sally has no counters for, Star’s transmutation spells and The Whispering Spell. You might be wondering about the transmutation spells, since the rings protect against them. However, Nicole's nanites are explicitly shown to be weak to transmutation magic, and while one can make the argument that Power Rings protect abilities against this, what’s to protect The Power and Red Rings, or even The Deep Power Stones against The Whispering Spell, which destroys any and all magic and magical items?
While Star and Sally have a lot to throw at the other, at the end of the day, only Star has reliable counters against Sally's entire kit, and this comes from the fact that Sally relies on her equipment and items in a fight, while Star has all her abilities within herself. So when it comes to Low-Ends Star vs Base Sally abilities vs arsenal, while it's close, Star takes it…
High-End Star vs Sword of Acorns Sally
That is if you only go for a low end perspective, because while all of this remains true, and even worse for Sally in her base when taking this approach, when The Sword of Acorns is added things become a bit more tricky. Now it is true, that The Whispering Spell is still a solid wincon here, it can destroy The Sword of Acorns. However, since The Sword grants Super Level stats, Sally becomes way too fast for that even to work. Furthermore, Sally can create energy blasts, dimensional rifts, read minds, clairvoyance, healing, and most dangerous of all, power absorption. The Sword could drain the powers of Nagus, and a version of Enerjak who defeated Super Sonic, and it killed The Ancient Walkers. If it could drain them, then it can surely drain Star of all her magic, while also granting Sal the same resistances she had with The Power Rings.
So, with the sword Sally takes this.
Tertiary Factors
Regardless of how you look at this, Star is the more skilled and active fighter, and is definitely more talented with weapons and hand to hand combat. However, Sally is no slouch either, she’s had similar levels of training, is way more experienced, a great swordwoman, and way smarter and a greater tactician. Since Sally doesn’t actively use the ring's offensive powers, and just its defensive one’s, you could argue if Star would know their magic, and protect Sally from her spells. Though Star is not dumb, especially in battle, it's also fair to believe that she could figure it out. Nicole may not be able to affect Star, but she can do other things like what I mentioned above, alongside calculating probabilities, creating plans, and detecting signatures.
This time, I’m not gonna do votes, I want to let you decide who wins. I structured it this way to show that the matchup still works and has a lot to talk about no matter what end you buy for Star, and if you think Sally should get the sword or not. So, I kinda wanted to leave it up for everyone to decide which way this matchup goes, and who wins.

Nanites can be transmutated
Overclocked Nicole can only last so long and can be stalled
The Whispering Spell legitimately can destroy all her magical items including The Sword of Acorns
At least Amy still exist (one day though)
Favorite matchups for both series
(some of these are old TN’s cause I didn’t want to make more lol)
Star Vs The Forces of Evil
Antoine D’Coolette vs Marco Diaz
Connections:
Both started off as cowardly/scared individuals that preferred to be away from the action, then be in it.
They both were trained since childhood to learn how to fight.
Both would learn what it means to be brave due to the help of their friends, especially a fiery yellowed haired friend (Star and Bunnie).
Both were pranked/made fun of by a guy (Tom and Sonic) whom they would later go on to mend their relationship with and become great friends.
They both had a crush on a girl whom they would eventually settle with being friends with (Jackie Lyn Thomas and Sally Acorn).
They both are a part of a team that has a lot of super-powered entities, at first they both struggled with this but eventually became one of the most important members of this team.
They both get stranded in another dimension due to the actions of someone else (Patch and Hekapoo).
They also eventually get together with their yellowed haired friend (Star and Bunnie).
They both also suffer great wounds (Marco gets stabbed and Antoine faces an explosion to the face by Metal Sonic).
They both also are proficient with a sword and are knights to a kingdom (Kingdom of Acorn and Mewni).
Both are no strangers to using magical items (Power Rings and Dimensional Scissors).
Everytime, I reread Archie Sonic, I get more and more appreciation for Antoine. Anyways, I really like this one, it’s very thematic, and one of my favorite aspects is that it wouldn’t be a cosmic battle, like many of the other matchups that exist for the other characters in their respective worlds. Yes, I’m sure you can make universal arguments for both, however, that wouldn’t play out in the fight. It would just be a straightforward sword fight, with a bit of hand to hand combat mixed in it as well, while you can still have a bit of dimensional travel and cool interactions of their arsenals, like Marco’s Dragon Bike and Antoine Extreme Gear. As for who wins, I’d say that while both are probably somewhat even in stats, I think Marco is definitely better at hand to hand combat, Ant probably, like Sally, has higher reaction speeds, is a better tactician, and is overall a much more skilled fighter, and has the greater experience. So, you could probably give it to Ant, though I can see arguments for Marco, he did, afterall, handle Base Star’s spells being thrown at him.
I don’t know any alts for Antoine, but I know Marco has Connie from Steven Universe, and while that works too, I just overall prefer this, and works better on a thematic level.
Eclipsa vs Wukong (Star vs The Forces of Evil vs Lego Monkie Kid)
Connections:
Both are legendary figures whose reputations became far more frightening than who they actually are.
Both were sealed away/imprisoned for a period of time because others viewed them as too dangerous or chaotic to be left free.
Both are misunderstood by society and judged more by rumors, history, and fear than by their true character.
Both challenge the traditions and authority systems of their worlds instead of blindly following them.
Both have chaotic, playful personalities on the surface, but hide surprising emotional depth and wisdom underneath.
Both use humor and unpredictability to mask pain, loneliness, or frustration with the way others see them.
Both become unconventional mentors to younger heroes (MK and Star), encouraging them to think for themselves rather than obey tradition.
Both are associated with immense power that others view as dangerous or unstable.
Both blur the line between hero and troublemaker, making them difficult for others to fully trust or understand.
Both have pasts that were heavily distorted by history, causing newer generations to grow up with the wrong image of them.
Both ultimately represent the idea that people who refuse to conform to society’s expectations are often turned into “monsters” by history, even when they are far more caring and human than others realize.
Oh, I like this one. Eclipsa is a character I always wanted to see get a chance on the show, as she is one of my favorite characters from Star vs The Forces of Evil. She has a fun personality, that you wouldn’t expect of a character of reputation, and the same can be said for Wukong. The reason this is Lego Monkie Kid Wukong, is because his personality is the one who bounces off Eclipsa better. It’s also cool because Eclipsa is not a physical fighter, relying on her magic, and Wukong is, so it’s a ranged fighter vs a hand to hand combatant, and I do like those contrasts. I don’t know who wins, Eclipsa definitely scales to Star in some capacity, she was able to beat Moon, and should also be stronger than The Magical High Commission. I’m not aware of LMK scaling, and how it matches up to Star Vs.
Meteora vs Surge The Tenrec
Connections:
Both started life as individuals who were never truly allowed to become their “real” selves, because other people shaped their identities before they even had the chance to figure themselves out.
Both were manipulated by powerful systems that treated them more like tools or experiments than actual people with emotions and free will.
Both eventually discover horrifying truths about their pasts that completely shatter their understanding of who they are.
Both react to those revelations with intense emotional breakdowns that spiral into rage, destruction, and rebellion against the world around them.
Both carry deep resentment toward the people who unknowingly took the life or position they feel should have belonged to them (Sonic and Star).
Both struggle with the painful feeling of being “the replacement” or “the forgotten one” while somebody else gets celebrated.
Both are driven by the desperate need to prove that they matter and are more than just someone else’s shadow.
Both hide massive emotional insecurity behind loud, aggressive, confrontational personalities.
Both constantly try to project confidence and superiority, but underneath that attitude is someone terrified that their existence has no real meaning.
Both become terrifyingly dangerous once they fully embrace their anger and stop holding back emotionally.
Both experience unnatural increases in power that mirror the emotional chaos happening inside of them.
Both visually reflect instability through their expressions, movements, and energy, making them feel unpredictable every time they appear on screen or page.
Both have moments where they come off almost unhinged, not because they are evil for the sake of being evil, but because they genuinely do not know how to process the pain they carry.
Both are written in ways that make you sympathize with them even while they are causing destruction.
Both are tragic “what if” versions of what the heroes could have become under different circumstances.
Both act as dark reflections of the main protagonists, challenging their ideals and forcing them to confront truths they normally avoid.
Both have a deep hatred for the systems that created their suffering, whether it be Starline’s manipulation or Mewni’s corrupt royal system.
Both lash out at the world because they feel like the world robbed them of the chance to have a normal life.
Both spend much of their stories trying to reclaim control over their own identities after years of manipulation.
Both struggle with the fear that nobody would truly care about them if they were not useful, powerful, or important.
Both have emotional arcs built around the question of whether someone shaped by trauma and lies can still become their own person.
Both are characters whose anger is rooted less in pure hatred and more in heartbreak, betrayal, and existential loneliness.
Both radiate chaotic energy whenever they enter a scene, creating the feeling that anything could happen once emotions start boiling over.
Both are examples of how isolation and manipulation can twist someone into becoming the very thing they never wanted to be.
Both ultimately feel less like traditional villains and more like wounded individuals screaming at a world they believe failed them.
I really do like Sonic vs Star Vs, huh. I like this one, both are similar characters, who touch on similar themes. Furthermore, you can get a lot of animation potential out of this one, with Meteora’s strength, magic, and her ability to grow in size. Surge’s speed and electricity power’s also offer a fun dynamic to bounce off of Meteora’s powers. Sonic characters are no stranger to fighting larger opponents, including Surge, so size difference won’t really matter. Plus, Surge won’t have to worry about fighting a character with so much hax, Meteora mainly uses her strength for combat, and her aggressiveness, like Surge. Plus, Meteora’s eye blast as well.
For who wins, well, while controversial, the best you can get for base level Sonic characters, universal is the maximum. That’s the minimum you could argue for Meteora, who seriously harmed Moon, and stalemated Star, and while Meteora doesn’t have much hax, her eye beams can also steal souls and absorb them for power. Now, Surge is definitely more experienced, a more skilled fighter, and is much faster. But eventually, Meteora will get the hit she needs to defeat Surge, so yeah, Meteora definitely takes it.
Sonic The Hedgehog
Franklin vs Tails (Marvel vs Archie Sonic)
Connections:
Both are child - teenage heroes of a mutated/genetically altered team of heroes in their worlds (Freedom Fighters and Fantastic Four) with a cosmic destiny concerning the greater multiverse ultimately that places them on a pedestal beyond everyone else.
Humorously both are apart of a team with the initials FF
They were born to great heroes (Amadeus and Rosemary Prower and Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman) and grew up fighting for the forces of good both with their familial team, and in adventures to different lands all on their own (Tails miniseries adventures and Franklin’s own time spent with the Power Pack) due to their wish to be heroes not looked down upon for their age.
Both take the place of “little brother” on the team, and frequently showcase this in heartwarming moments with their elders, like an older sister of sorts (Tails comforting Bunnie Rabbot over her becoming a cyborg in Post-Genesis and Franklin saving Kitty Pryde's life while helping her cope with her then-permanent intangibility).
There powers at their best, tied to an extradimensional power sources others use (Chaos Force and Godpower) enable them to do anything they imagine, like fell God's and ultimately bring about Cosmic rebirth (Tails remaking the multiverse after Mogul's rampage and heralding the Great Awakening and Franklin taking part in the 9th iteration of Marvel's Omniverse).
Both of them, despite their talents, have a problem with believing they are ultimately powerless or inadequate
Tails has frequently expressed annoyance and sadness with people simplifying him to “a mere child” despite his stopping Mogul, and this doubles when he gets made a fool out of, like his battle with Honey in the tournament during Sonic Unleashed. Franklin, in-canon, is always associated with the 5 year old with unlimited potential, similar to Beethoven writing a concerto at 12. So, he rewrote his own biology, prematurely aging himself, but that scared everyone. So he gave himself limits, and tried being a hero like other kids his age, like with the Power Pack, so one day he would get to go on adventures with the FF. But Psi-Lord got to go instead, and now he's his age, nothing like him, and that makes it worse. Then, he met himself from the future who was perfect, who he had to become and save everything, so he feels he's not enough no matter what, that he'll always end up letting everybody down.
They would eventually get past these tragic mental doubts to become great heroes in their adulthood (Tails in 25 years later and Franklin's adult self) who saved reality time and time again.
Now I made this one, so I’m biased, but this is one of my favorite matchups of all time, no cap. The absolute insanity that both these kids powers posses is crazy, there’s so much you can do with this, there powers bounce off each other perfectly, because their powers hinge on creativity, they can literally do anything, and it’s super thematic, I love it…too bad Franklin stomps.
Bunnie Rabbot vs either Rogue or Android 18
Connections:
General (Foundations)
Both are Southern Belle superheroes from iconic mutant superhero teams; sharing the role of the “flying powerhouse” archetype (usually serving as the brawler/muscle when needed). Much of their fame and standing directly came from the cartoons they appeared in during the 1990s, which shaped numerous factions of people’s childhood in the time they aired (X-Men: The Animated Series and SATAM Sonic the Hedgehog, with the latter creating Bunnie).
Their teams also share numerous similarities. Both are comprised of mutants in a world of their species and humans, due to evolution that birthed them while causing various wars between them across history. Both are formed by friends and family, with various matching/extended roles for leaders (Cyclops and Sally Acorn), free-spirited rebels as the face of the team (Wolverine and Sonic), other powerhouses that come by occasionally (Colossus and Knuckles), as well as physically mighty geniuses (Beast and Rotor) and younger members with a lot of potential (Jubilee and Tails).
Backstories:
Both of them started with complicated lives as essential orphans/runaways depending on the story due to their parental situation, resulting in their being raised by aunts/uncles (Rogue’s parents died when she was a baby, leading her aunt to become a more strict figure that shielded her from this. She eventually ran away to live her own life as a rebel. Pre-Genesis Bunnie’s parents died during the Great War, and she was raised by her Aunt/Uncle. When told her parents were traitors, Bunnie ran away to live on her own as a farmer, until she became a cyborg. Post-Genesis had her be found as an orphan by Uncle Chuck and Rosie Woodchuck).
As they grew older, they fell into the idea of romance and wanted a “prince charming;” so to speak. The prospect of one who could accept them despite their flaws, and an idea of someone who would accept them despite their broken past, as well as the idea that they would feel loved; beautiful even (Rogue’s childhood often had her warned about not interacting with boys due to her powers. She wanted to date still, like with her first crush Cody Robbins, due to her craving for love. Bunnie’s Post-Genesis self dreamed to find such a prince who would sweep her off her feet, in such conversations with other girls her age due to mere dreams of the future).
However, both dreams and idealistic fantasies were cut short by tragic events that resulted in their getting their powers while young: a blessing and a curse all at once (Rogue kissing Cody unlocked the brunt of her powers, making it so she stole your very life if she touched you. Despite the use of this, her stagnation with them made it so she could never touch anybody else ever, meaning gaining friends and family in true relationships was pretty much impossible. Post-Genesis Bunnie was caught in the crossfire of Eggman’s first attack, damaging her body to the point that Uncle Chuck had to make her a cyborg to save her life. Bunnie underwent intense physical and mental trauma, having to learn to walk all over again in painful prosthetics while struggling with this strange new form, all while the mocking and fear from other kids her age made her think herself a monster)
Motivation and Character Comparisons
Because of how their powers manifested, they became powerful, but hated those same powers deep down for making them feel even more of a monster then before (Both were feared and hated to multiple degrees based on their Mutant/Robot heritage, and even more so by those closer on occasion. Rogue despised herself not being able to truly interact with those she cared about, thus being put at arm’s length for their own safety because she perceived herself as a leech that could only take and destroy. Bunnie, as mentioned, viewed herself as an abnormal freak for how it shattered her want to be beautiful, and how it warped her want of a happy life surrounded by others when those around her mocked her by calling her “Rab-bot” instead of “Rab-boh”).
This continues, going into their fears that they would lose themselves and their souls to this power (Rogue has struggled numerous times over her own identity as Anna Marie, with her absorbing Carol Danvers or other heroes warping that perception and terrifying her that she will lose herself to her powers. Bunnie has similarly struggled with the fear that her flesh will lose to her robot self, whether in nightmares or when foes have turned her against her friends).
Story and Growth
Despite these mental struggles, both of them would find friends and family of like-minded orphans/gifted people/those scorned for a super-hero team, though again, more like a family (The X-Men and Freedom Fighters). Such was due to core memories where others reached out to them due to psychological/physical pain from a horrible circumstance, with others reaching back, and that surprising them; changing them, into the person they are now (After she absorbed Carol’s powers and underwent a massive identity crisis, Rogue went to her then enemies at Xavier’s school and begged for help. To her surprise this was granted, and she was accepted as a fellow hero after some struggle, for perhaps her first true family. Bunnie’s event as a child initially caused her to isolate herself, until Tails reached out to her and told her she was the same person as always to him, offering to help her move/walk without pain through this hurdle with his robotics. This event is a core memory for Bunnie, citing it as the day she learned she didn’t have to be alone, and the day she found others who cared about her for her).
After this, they grew alongside their group. They gained sister-like friendships with other members (Storm and Sally), found other geniuses who directly helped them with their powers (Beast and Rotor), and absolutely adorable relationships with younger members (Jubilee and Tails). In fact, both pretty evidently portray the “big sister” role of the group, comforting younger members and helping the more seasoned members, all while sharing their stories to help others.
These relationships of friendship and family are the core of their character, and directly what they attribute their growth to; all because they were held up and supported at their weakest so they could be strong for others.
Curiously, both also had a very similar arc related to losing their powers. Both were essentially cured of their abilities for a then-permanent time, which brought excessive joy… but also strife as they realized they lost the freedom their powers brought, while being unable to help their found family. (Rogue losing her powers along with Remy gave her the ability to truly pursue life as a normal member of society, while also being able to pursue Gambit without her powers getting in the way. However, this restricted her of the freedom in flight or simply having her abilities, 1Upon doing so, she felt weaker, fragile, and grounded from the freedom of flight which weakened her belief in herself, as well as gave her the notion that she was useless without her powers). Not only did this limit their ability to help their families, making them feel even worse (like Antoine being dangerously wounded in a following battle where Bunnie wasn't able to help), but restrict that true freedom beyond flight to help the ones they cared about.
Character Conclusion and Future
Both found their eventual prince charming in a Frenchman on their team (Gambit and Antoine D’Coolette). These relationships came from the one person who saw their flaws, saw how a relationship could have its struggles, but stayed anyway because they did not quit on the one they loved. Even despite the same sorts of struggles (break-ups, deaths, that sort of thing), their relationships stayed true, which led to them fixing their past flaws and accepting who they were (Rogue broke down her psyche and reformed it with Xavier, discovering how her powers worked and mastering them to the point that she could touch without draining others. Bunnie in both iterations chose to accept her robotic nature as her true self now, and mostly forewent seeking a cure to upgrade her body and permanently become a true cyborg to better help her friends).
From this relationship, both were spontaneously wed to their true love in a revelation by the men in their lives, causing them to realize life was too short to waste (Gambit proposed to Rogue on the spot after Colossus and Kitty Pryde’s failed wedding, from a conversation with Storm about realizing he’d rather not go on living then spend an eternity apart from Rogue. The two were thus wed in the former’s place, as the blissful end to Rogue’s journey and eternity alone, all from the one person who always stuck his hand out to hold hers no matter what. Antoine, upon learning Fiona Fox turned evil again with Scourge and seeing the group’s enemies grew in numbers, proposed to Bunnie right after the fact, where the pair were soon married. This event, as well as their prior developments, had Bunnie see that nobody truly viewed her as anything less than normal, and that through the eyes of that special one she sought all along, she was never a monster… she was beautiful). After the fact, their marriage would survive all sorts of things in a testament to their love, concluding things with their overall story.
(Connections by Round1)
This is my boy Round1 matchup, and I get. The themes are there, the powerset bounce off pretty well, and the debate is interesting. I understand why this is the current favorite for both, I just have another preference for Bunnie, instead, but this is a legitimately good matchup for both.
Connections:
As children, both were taken and experimented on by evil scientists (Android 18 by Doctor Gero and Bunnie Rabbot by Doctor Eggman), who transformed them into living weapons meant to help destroy or conquer the world.
Both were unwillingly given cybernetic enhancements that permanently changed their bodies and the course of their lives.
Both were originally created to serve as tools against legendary heroes (Goku and Sonic), yet eventually turned against their creators instead.
Both would later become trusted members of the same heroic groups their creators once considered enemies (the Z Fighters and the Freedom Fighters).
Both are characters whose stories revolve around reclaiming humanity and personal identity after being dehumanized and treated like machines.
Both eventually find peace and stability through the friendships and family they build after escaping their creators’ influence.
Both marry men who are often underestimated by others due to their occasional cowardly or comedic moments (Krillin and Antoine), yet are genuinely brave, loyal, and pure-hearted when it matters most.
Both Krillin and Antoine love them not because of their power or appearance, but because they see the person underneath the trauma and cybernetics.
Both relationships help reinforce the idea that they are more than weapons or experiments and deserve real love, happiness, and normal lives.
Both contrast their more lighthearted or comedic partners by often being the calmer, tougher, and more battle-capable one in the relationship.
Both eventually evolve from tragic victims into some of the most emotionally grounded and dependable members of their teams.
Both represent the idea that your past, your scars, or what was forced onto you do not define who you ultimately choose to become.
This is definitely my preference for Bunnie, I love Android 18, and I think while it may not have as many connections as Bunnie vs Rogue, they have enough. It may not be as debatable, but I do believe their powers bounce off well, and I think it does have decent animation potential too.
Tails vs Coco
Connections:
Both are blonde, young anthro animal deuteragonists, younger siblings/sibling figures and sidekicks to the main heroes of their worlds (Crash and Sonic), who fight against evil industrialising genius scientists (Cortex and Eggman) to protect their island homes from them.
Their franchises are among the longest running and most important gaming franchises ever, created in the 90s.
Both were introduced in the second games of their franchises (Crash 2 and Sonic 2)
Both look up to their brothers to the point of taking on similar movesets and wanting to be like them.
Both also have another older and stronger character in their team who acts as the biggest brother (Crunch and Knuckles), who are both very headstrong.
Both create a lot of gadgets, tools, weapons and other tech to help out their brothers during their adventures, which includes a tablet-like device that gives them information about whatever they need.
Both collect gemstones that hold a lot of power (Gems and Chaos Emeralds).
Both have been mind controlled in the past to fight against their brothers, but quickly broke out of it (Coco was hypnotised by N.Trance and Tails was turned into a cyborg by the Zeti)
Both have had to reluctantly team up with their enemies in the past, constantly butting heads about who's smarter.
They both have colorful small creature allies that give them different abilities (The Masks and The Wisps).
They both have built planes, televisions, space ships, handheld tablets to give them information, computers, etc.
Both are somehow very skilled in CQC despite their young age.
Both can use their brothers' signature moves, which involve spinning. (Spin Attack and Spin Dash)
Both have had times in which they needed to stand up to their villains on their own, learning to be braver and become their own heroes instead of just being simple sidekicks.
Both have also built their own karts in their series' kart racer spin-offs. Those spin-offs also have a team focused installment (Crash Nitro Kart and Team Sonic Racing) in which they team up with their 2 older brothers and are considered the beginner drivers.
It’s peak, that is all. Well, honestly, I do go back and forth on if I want this over Tails vs Franklin, cause it’s just that good. But I do think currently, I might prefer this one, but it depends on the day, it’s definitely more simpler than Tails vs Franklin. So yeah, love this one. Looking forward to the blog on this one.
Mario vs Sonic 3
I know many are tired of Mario vs Sonic. I know that Sonic vs Goku is still very popular, but darn it, I still want this matchup to get the Goku vs Superman (2024) treatment. Mario vs Sonic 2 did both dirty, and while not Goku vs Superman 2 levels of bad, it still does not hold up. I feel like a legacy matchup of this deserves the same love and passion that Goku vs Superman 3 got, and honestly I think the waiting period would be fun. I do think Sonic takes it, I feel his arguments, especially cosmology, is just better than Mario’s, but I’m open to the debate.
Simon vs Tails (Gurren Lagann vs Archie Sonic)
Connections:
Both start as kind-hearted, polite and humble but easily scared and unassuming orphaned kids lacking confidence in themselves
At the start of their adventures they live underground with their friends (Giha Village and Knothole)
Both lost their parents in tragic incidents (Simon's parents being crushed to death in a cave-in during an earthquake and Tails' parents being taken to be roboticized) due to the henchmen of the antagonistic rulers of their worlds (Lordgenome's Beastmen and Dr. Robotnik's SWATbots)
Both start out as lonely but find a confident optimistic blue haired supportive older brother figure (Kamina and Sonic)
Both eventually join a team of freedom fighters to take back their world (Team Dai-Gurren and the Freedom Fighters)
Both start out as sidekicks but eventually grow into their own and become heroes in their own right, even becoming skilled pilots of machinery
Both are empowered by a specific energy that has immense power (Spiral Energy and Chaos Energy) and use objects that use that power (The Core Drill Necklace and Gurren Lagann and The Chaos Emeralds and the Power Rings)
With this energy, they can become multiple forms that massively increase their power to absurd levels (Arc Gurren and Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann and Turbo Tails and Hyper Tails)
Both merged with every version of themself across the multiverse, becoming their strongest form (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and later Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Titan Tails)
You know, everytime I see Simon suggested to fight an Archie character, most of the time, it’s Sonic. I get it, Archie Sonic does have the cool aura to match Simon, however, I do also believe it’s because people want Sonic in general to fight Simon, but want him to have a chance at winning, so Archie Sonic is suggested, even if thematically it doesn’t work because Game and Archie Sonic are too different characters, not just in powers but also story and personality. While I do want Archie Sonic back on the show, especially because I didn’t really like his episode, if there is an Archie Sonic character who thematically matches Simon better, it’s Tails. They literally share the same themes, goals, roles, struggles, and relationship with their older brother figure, minus the whole dying thing, sorry Kamina. It has the same animation potential as Sonic vs Simon too.
Archie Tails has a good spread of matchups, but it sucks that he usually always gets stomped. Because he loses to Simon too, despite being the strongest Archie character, my boy can’t catch a break. Anyway, I really do like this matchup, just prefer Franklin a lot more.
Amy vs Sakura
(Ouch this TN sucks, gotta remake it)
Connections:
Pink haired heroines named after a type of flower
Both are pink-haired and green-eye girls who have a crush on blue-themed guys (Sasuke Uchiha for Sakura and Sonic the Hedgehog for Amy).
Both of their crushes saw them as annoying for a long time before they developed a close relationship (Sasuke had a child with Sakura while Sonic forged a strong friendship with Amy).
At the beginning their personality was based merely on following their love interest
Both were major players in a global war (The 4th Great Ninja War for Sakura and The War to Take Back the Planet/Eggman War for Amy).
Both have hidden talents that they rarely use and can become exponentially strong when they reach a state of enormous anger.
Their personality and trait was being obsessed with their love interest but they would become stronger and were eventually a valuable member to their team (Team Sonic and Team 7)
I like Amy, I like Sakura. I don’t care if it’s a stomp, and yes it’s basic. But I like it, it’s good, and you don’t have to make up reasons for Amy to have a non-canon super form, looking at you Amy vs Elphelt.
Knuckles vs Ne Zha (Sonic vs Lego Monkie Kid)
Connections:
Both live in a land/realm in the sky above the world (Angel Island and The Celestial Realm)
Both were guardians of items/artifacts that have immense power (Knuckles is The Guardian of The Master Emerald and Ne Zha was the Guardian of the map to the Rings of Samadhi)
Both started as rivals to an adventurous free as the wind spirit (Sonic and Wukong), and were once enemies, however over time while they still butt heads they have become friends and allies and have teamed up to protect the world
They unusually butt heads due this adventures carefree attitude and their more serious and focused personality
The best thematic contrast is that this fight for both of them would be like fighting their rivals, Sonic is faster but Knux hits harder, and Wukong hits harder but Ne Zha is faster something which is brought up in both series
So for Knux this would be like fighting Sonic and for Ne Zha this would be like fighting Wukong
This matchup has become my favorite for Knuckles, Ne Zha in LMK is basically the Knuckles of the series, at least in role and responsibility, and his relationship with Wukong is basically like Knuckles relationship with Sonic. Even better, Ne Zha fights like Sonic with his speed, and Knuckles hits hard like Wukong, they’re literally fighting their rivals by battling each other. We also get a matchup where we don’t need to have super forms, looking at you Knuckles vs Piccolo. I don’t know who wins, nor do I care right now, I just want to see them fight.
Vegeta vs Shadow
Connections:
Brooding rivals to the series' main protagonists (Goku & Sonic) that started out as main antagonists in their debut (Saiyan Saga and SA2) before eventually joining the series' main cast and becoming the 3rd or even 2nd most iconic characters in their franchises.
Both are aliens who hail from a race of galactic conquerors that would eventually be wiped out almost completely with traces still lingering (Saiyans and Black Arms).
Both are essentially meant to serve as opposites to the series' protagonists, with Goku & Sonic being static characters who change the world through their actions while Vegeta & Shadow are characters famed for their development in-series and change based on the conditions they find themselves in.
Both are (kind of in Shadow's case?) the same race/species as our main protagonist.
Both have some big ego's (Shadow's is nowhere near as cartoonishly big as Vegeta's though).
Both would reject their heritage in some form or another, with Vegeta coming to accept that the Saiyans were a race of conquerors that deserved to die out while Shadow literally rejected his Black Arms heritage by beating the shit out of Black Doom, twice.
Both would sacrifice themselves for the ones they love, only to eventually be brought back to life or revealed to not be dead in the first place (Vegeta's Final Atonement and Shadow at the end of SA2).
Despite joining the main cast, both routinely have struggled with properly working together with them and have often taken matters into their own hands.
Both can activate golden forms that grant them an immense increase in strength (Super Saiyan and Super Shadow).
Both aren't the first rivals introduced in the series, but would become the main rival due to their sheer popularity.
Both were originally intended to die in their debut appearances, but would be spared and become main stays due to their sheer popularity with fans.
I’m sorry I know ya’ll want Mewtwo vs Shadow, and I get it, and I also like Venom vs Shadow be it games or Archie. But this, this is my Shadow matchup, I honestly think it’s the better Sonic vs Dragon Ball matchup, then Goku vs Sonic. It’s just so peak, I want them to fight with the modern analysis for both series in mind.
Archie Eggman vs Bill Cipher
Connections:
The connections between Bill and Eggman are as such, both have originated from different dimensions, in said dimension, due to dissatisfaction with how their world operated both conquered and eventually destroyed their original worlds, this would include their families as well.
To fill the void of their destroyed world, they would travel to a different dimension to conquer this new world (Dimension " 46'\ " and Mobius Prime).
Both have manipulated others into believing they were their allies, promising them knowledge/or power, before revealing their true colors betraying them (King Max and Ford).
Despite they’re goofy demeanors, names, and personalities, both are ruthlessly evil and have used their powers and arsenal for great destruction, including genocide, however despite their great intellect and manipulative minds, both are completely insane (through his discovery of The Nightmare Realm, and the destruction of his world, Bill would view life as cruel, an indifferent multiverse he existed within that didn’t matter. Essentially a cosmic nihilism, where nothing mattered at all. While Eggman was always somewhat mad, he was driven to insanity after countless defeats at the hands of one person, Sonic, after experiencing a reality where he conquered and destroyed his original Sonic and his family, Mobius Prime Sonic no matter how many times he planned and schemed, and almost won, would always bounce back and defeat him, causing him to believe in Chaos Theory that fate intervenes to make Sonic win, instead of just admitting that Sonic is just that good).
Also, despite they’re overwhelming powers their ego’s bring upon their downfall, as both look down on those whom they consider lowly, and that underestimation of their foes lead to their destruction.
Both have been opposed by one family (Pines and Acorns) and their friends and allies, have henchmen/armies, and have used their powers to mess with reality itself to achieve their goals.
To shape the world and beyond to their own image (for Bill that's achieving Weirdmageddon and for Eggman that’s Eggmanland), both have used the unpredictable powers of Chaos and Weirdness.
What I think is really cool about this matchup is the elements of Chaos vs Weirdness, they’re unpredictability and how both use it, obviously this is a magic vs science matchup, where Bill’s powers are inherent to himself while Eggman utilizes Chaos Magic through his machines, even better you could use both henchmen and armies in the fight to add onto the chaotic weirdness of it all. Something that I love a lot about this matchup is that you can delve into their egos and smarts. Eggman, despite his accomplishments, which Bill would know of, would still be looked down upon by Bill, because he’s a mortal, human. Bill would not take himself seriously with Eggman, and ol Egghead could use that as his advantage pressuring Bill more and more till he has to get serious, and would be furious that he’s struggling this much against something so lowly to him. Evidently, Eggman’s own ego could get the better of him, since he’s dealt with Chaos Mages and gods, that in his own way he’d not take Bill as big of a threat as he actually is.
This one really comes down to where do you have Bill Cipher in stats which is evidently really debatable. Surprisingly, Archie Sonic stats have been for the most part pretty agreeable with the majority of people I’ve seen or talked to. Book of Bill really made this really hard to get a community consensus, if you put Bill at his absolute highest, then he should take it no question, if you keep it to where the episode had him, if I remember correctly then Eggman should win.
There’s also hax to consider and both have and resist a great bit of powerful stuff, I'd also like to do a deep dive into if Bill could resist or manipulate The Super Genesis Wave. So yeah it's debatable in the sense that no one can really agree with where Bill is at, depending on where you place him it's either really close relying on hax or absolute stomp in either favor.
We’ve already seen what Bill can do, and he’s got more stuff due to Book of Bill, moreso Archie Eggman has everything Game Eggman has (outside of stuff from Lost World-Frontiers) and then some, army fight, Chaos vs Weirdness, absolute reality breaking madness, imagine actually getting Time Eater this time, and having him vs Bill, and then ultimately ending in Eggman using The SGW in a last minute gamble, having the whole fight being a matter of stalling for time so Snively could activate it for Eggman, and have Bill trying to resist the SGW effects, either succeeding or failing. And the banter’s insane, with Bill mouth and quips annoying Eggman, and angering him reminding him of Sonic. And Eggman’s ability to push him to the absolute limits, absolutely angering Bill, because a mere human can mess him up this bad. Sure Stanley, Ford, and Dipper have occasionally outsmarted him, but Eggman is not only outsmarting him but also physically matching him. Finally it's Sonic vs Gravity Falls, you know that music potential goes hard.
I feel it's great for a Bill runback and really interesting for Archie Eggman. One thing that really hits is that it's different than a lot of their other options where there pitted against other godlike reality warpers for Bill or other scientific minds for Archie Eggman, this is reality warping demon vs a highly intelligent scientific human, that single contrast, despite them both being horrifically evil is just so good to me. So yeah, that's why I think Bill Cipher vs Archie Eggman is better than you think. Thank you for reading.
Sonic vs Anne (Paramount vs Disney)
Connections:
The Connections between Anne and Sonic are as such, both were sent to another dimension against their will due to the actions of others (Anne was trapped in Amphibia due to Sasha and Marcy pressuring her to steal The Calamity Box on her birthday, and Sonic was sent to Earth due to The Echidna’s attacking him and Longclaw not just for his power but for the location of The Master Emerald).
Both would be forced to live alone in the forest by themselves and try to survive while doing so, while in hiding both would be whispered about in the town, particularly by a crazy fellow in the town (Wally and Crazy Carl) being given a moniker as well (Monster for Anne and Blue Devil for Sonic)
Both would meet a new friend (Sprig and Tom) in this world with whom they would save, said friend would not only help them on their quest to escape their world/return home (Anne back to Earth and Sonic to The Mushroom Dimension to escape the government), but also eventually give them a home.
Both would be chased around the planet, and even other dimensions for the power they wield by robots, who are controlled by a man (Andrias and Robotnik)who seeks conquest, with a past of loneliness/abandonment issues (Andrais devaluing the meaning of friendship and bonds after everything with Leaf, and Robotnik having never known his parents and extended family becoming a loner who seeks to rule the world after meeting Sonic)
Both would eventually be accepted into the family of this new friend, and become a member of this family (Anne becomes a Planter and Sonic a Wachowski)
Anne and Sonic have an intense rivalry with a red colored warrior (Sasha and Knuckles) with whom they have a well knit past with (Sasha and Anne were friends, tho Sasha would force Anne to do things she didn’t want too, and would eventually become enemies with and fight when they get to Amphibia, and Knuckles losing his tribe and father in the same attack Sonic would lose Longclaw, with Knux chasing Sonic believing he has the secret to The Master Emeralds which he believes is his right to have)
They would eventually mend this relationship, and become a group dedicated to protecting this new world they come to love, alongside their other nerdy best friend (Marcy and Tails)
Both gain forms of great power from gems (Calamity Gems and Chaos Emeralds) contained within something else (Calamity Box and Master Emeralds)
Both would seemingly lose their closest friend to another for a brief time, awakening a rage and anger within them (True Colors when Andrias drops Sprig and when Shadow punches Tom seemingly killing him)
Through their encounters and fights, Anne and Sonic actions, and the words from someone whom they care for in the past would change an enemies mind, and forgo the influence (The Core and Gerald) that was guiding them down a path of revenge (Through Anne’s words and the words of Leaf in a letter, Andrais would choose to be injured on purpose instead of continuing to fight, and Shadow remembering the words of Maria and his talk would Sonic would forgo his quest for revenge)
Both would fight against a bunch of robots and a greater evil (The Core and Gerald) in space with their Super Form alongside others (Sasha and Marcy/Shadow), whose goal was to destroy the planet they’ve come to love with something big (The Moon and The Ark)
Their greatest enemy (Andrias and Robotnik) would actually help them in this battle, choosing to join them in their efforts to destroy the world, and go against their parental relative (Andrias Father and Gerald) to do so
Funny enough the Moon would be damaged or outright destroyed in both battles
Both would use up a great amount of energy to destroy this threat and almost (or actually in Anne’s case) die in the process, being brought back down to Earth by others (Sprig and Frobo, Knuckles and Tails)
Interestingly enough at one point in their stories both have the options to become even more powerful godlike entities, but choose to give that up, at least for awhile just to enjoy being a kid and growing up (Anne with the Guardian and in Sonic 2 Sonic choosing to give up The Emeralds)
Both have weapons that a Ninja Turtle uses lol (Sword and Nunchucks)
Both would receive a new item that they would wear going forward symbolizing their growth and the change they've gone through while still staying true to themselves (Anne’s Armor and Sonic Sneakers)
I know ya’ll want Luzanne, and I know Movie Sonic vs DCU Superman has gotten popular, but this for me will always be my favorite for both. Anne and Sonic deal with the themes of growing up and responsibility, while also looking out for others. At the start both are incredibly immature and have to rely on the guidance from others, but overtime both mature and grow up, becoming capable heroes/friends.
Also they’re the inverse of each other, inverses of the sent to another world trope. Anne was a human from Earth sent to a different world, and Sonic was an alien from another world sent to Earth. I’ve seen the complaint that the matchup, heavily relies on Anne’s Forms to work, but I think Anne’s base form can get some creative stuff out of the fight, like using her tennis racket to bounce off Sonic’s Spin-Dash or Homing Attack, or having Anne’s Sword and Sonic’s Nunchucks be used, even in a humour manner.
Also Anne has shown the capability to use her calamity powers in her base form, like when she fought the Lanky Frobot in the store. Also the animation potential with their forms out becomes absolutely awesome. Yeah I know LuzAnne is inevitable but dang it, I still love this mu, and I’d like to see it happen one day.
Connections For Star vs Sally
Rebel teenage princesses who fight for peace for their kingdoms. They both have a parent who is strict and a bit hard on them (Moon and Max). This parent has also made choices that not only conflict with their goals, but have made choices that have negatively impacted their worlds. (Like when Moon and The Commissions treatment of Monsters, and how Moon chose Mina’s side over Star’s briefly and Max trusting Robotnik leading to their kingdom's downfall, and making decisions like wanting to kill all Robians).
They have led a group of teenage warriors (Freedom Fighters and Marcificant 7) in the fight for freedom. Both would have someone else in their family become ruler ( Eclipsa and Elias) in their stead, while they focus on fighting for peace. They have a romantic relationship with a person who is not of royal or high-ranking status but is a hero with a heart of gold, and who later on gets knighted (Sonic and Marco) by a member of their family (Moon and Elias).
They have been trained in combat since childhood (Star by The Knights of Mewni and Sally by her mentor Julayla) and use powerful magical artifacts that belong to their family (The Magic Wand and The Sword of Acorns). They draw their magic from a source (The Realm of Magic and The Source of All) and have had their abilities used against their friends and family (Half of Star’s wand was used to corrupt magic by Toffee and hurt others, while Sally's roboticization meant her skills and experience were used by Eggman for evil).
Due to their powersets and arsenal, they have access to powers that let them make anything they need to help them in battle (Magic/Nicole and her Nanites)
Each has dealt with their people turning their backs on them and their friends (Mewmans when Star started bringing societal reform and equal rights for monster kind, and some Mewmans turning against Eclipsa to join Mina. The Mobians started to fear and hate Nicole, and they allowed Nagus to usurp the throne from Elias).
One thematic contrast that I personally like, is that while both struggle with the pressures of being a princess and one day ruling over their kingdoms, Star actively does everything she can to avoid becoming Queen. While she fights for her people, she would rather be a rebel fighter than a princess, even handing over her crown to Eclipsa and looking forward to when she could be a normal teen again. Sally, while wishing she didn’t have to rule and to live free like Sonic, accepts her responsibility to her people and never tries to run from the throne.
Both would eventually lose the source of their magical powers and subsequently their magical weapon (The Realm of Magic is destroyed by The Whispering Spell, leaving Star without magic, and The Source of All getting nuked, and the destruction of The Sword of Acorns).
I could not find a matchup for Elias Acorn, I am sad.
